ACMI PI Zachary Lipton and Philosophy Professor David Danks were awarded a grant by the Block Center at CMU for research that will be spearheaded by postdoc Sina Fazelpour leveraging human-in-the-loop studies to investigate the nature of hybrid human-computer collaborative decision making systems. Among other focuses of the study, this work will attempt to understand the impacts of various effect modifiers, including the self-perceived expertise of the humans, the number of human participants involved, the impacts of various forms of explanations, and more.
Our PhD studnet Jonathon Byrd was awarded one of this year's PhD fellowsips from the Center for Machine Learning and Health. His current work addresses the use of machine learning for modeling wait-list survival in liver transplantation.
Our own Leqi Liu has been named one of only 10 recipients of the Open Philanthropy fellowship for her work on building automated systems better aligned with human preferences. Congrats Leqi!
